Tour de Yorkshire 2017 raising money for Birstwith in Bloom

The end of April and the beginning of May certainly gave us something to enjoy and appreciate. The Tour de Yorkshire passed off with lots of village support and everywhere looked fantastic thanks to the BHS and also to Andrea and Matthew who I think not only fed the village but half of the amateur cyclists of Nidderdale. Thank you all those people who created the wonderful scarecrows around our village and also those who opened their gardens. My husband and I loved having so many visitors to our garden and talked to many interesting people throughout the day. Our final event of the weekend, the pig race was well supported and of course great fun. Amy and her team did a sterling job and deserve a long lie down after all that hard work. The weekends events raised almost £800.00 for BIB which puts us in a strong position to continue our work around the village for the next year. We have many projects in the pipeline and lots of enthusiasm and could always use some more volunteers. The support we have received has really touched us and we aim to go from strength to strength. Summer judging is on the 10th July, where we will have to showcase further achievements- no pressure there then.

The Birstwith Horticultural Society are now gearing up a notch in order to bring the village a bumper anniversary show. Hopefully the lovely May weather will have given our fruit and veg a head start and the show tent will be bursting. On show day there will be an archive display highlighting the shows successful 150 years and the evening will finish with a celebratory firework display.

Make sure the dates in your diary and that you get your entry forms in before the due date. Once more the Dales store will be collecting entries all week and of course there is still entry night. So please, please get growing, sewing, arranging and baking ready for the 29th JULY 2017.

P.S Sorry no room for gardening tips this month, just plant it, water it, pick it and bring it to the show.
